Some changes are being suggested in Appleton to extend smoking restrictions to cover the entire city block where the Appleton Public Library and the Transit Center are located. Currently, smoking is prohibited directly in front of the Transit Center and near library entrances, but the ordinance seeks to eliminate smoking on the surrounding sidewalks and public areas of the library block.

These changes benefit everyone.

It reduces risk of disease.

There is NO safe level of exposure to smoke for anyone. 

It improves community accessibility.

Smoke-free areas make public spaces safer and more comfortable for everyone, especially the most vulnerable in the community., 

It’s cleaner. 

Less smoking means less litter, which saves on cleaning costs and protects the environment - including water ways.
